Stranger phone-borrowing requests in public spaces

Individuals are approached in public locations such as petrol stations and cafés by strangers requesting brief use of their phone, ostensibly to make a call. The interactions appear staged and may serve as pretexts for device theft, contactless payment skimming, or social engineering reconnaissance.
How the scam works
In-person distraction approach using scripted phone-borrowing requests to gain momentary physical access to a victim's device or payment credentials.
