Compromised contact accounts distributing phishing invitations
4 reports · first seen 13 July 2026 · last seen 19 July 2026
Phishing emails disguised as social invitations — such as e-vites or greeting cards — are sent from compromised legitimate accounts, lending credibility and prompting recipients to click malicious links or enter credentials. Victims are caught because the sender is a known contact, reducing suspicion.
How the scam works
Hijacked contact accounts used to distribute credential-harvesting links or malware installers disguised as event invitations or greeting cards.
